I do want to seal it, but can I do anything to clean it to reveal any raised portion on the button. I used water and a toothbrush but nothing is really showing up.
Found this button in the same field as a very normal flat button. However, this one is thicker. I believe it has some sort of raised print/picture on it but would welcome advise on how to clean it carefully, so I don't ruin it completely. Also, if I shouldn't try cleaning it let me know. All options will be considered. I have little experience in this area.
@detectorbobIt’s pewter. More often the not they are just civilian button. Great 18th century button with shank. It should be sealed. Hairspray, diluted Elmer‘s glue are a couple methods people use. It’s a good one to practice on.
Hello everyone. This is my first post on this new addition to our club website. I don't get on websites too much but hope that people start using this as a way to communicate with other members. This is a way to share finds and other information with people you know and occasionally see at the meetings.
OK, thanks.
